Mokelumne Glen Vineyards — Meet the Winemakers

Mokelumne Glen Vineyards in Lodi is home to over 40 German and Austrian grape varieties. Even though commercial wine production ceased at MGV in 2009, wine is continuing to be produced by a group of winemakers on both a commercial and home winemaking level. They are an interesting and diverse group, drawn to this unique collection of grape varieties in the most unexpected location.

Karl Wente is fifth-generation winemaker at Wente Vineyards, and was recently named in Wine Enthusiast Magazine’s 40 Under 40: America’s Tastemakers. Winemaking isn’t Karl’s only passion, he also has a serious interest in music. Let’s see how wine and music go together.

Okanagan Valley Wines – A Tasting at Home

During the excursion we took prior to the Wine Bloggers’ Conference 2013 (WBC13) in Penticton, British Columbia, we tasted wine at three wineries in the Kelowna area. We wrote about those winery visits in prior posts. During the tastings, we collected a few wines to take home with us. We did so with the idea of sharing them with the wine tasting group on Thursday nights at Fine Wines of Stockton. George and Gail gave Pete the floor for the tasting last Thursday night.

Wine And A Pyramid Too!

We recently visited Summerhill Pyramid Winery as part of a Pre-Conference Excursion to the Wine Bloggers’ Conference 2013 in Penticton, British Columbia. The excursion was planned for us by Tourism Kelowna and included a tour and dinner at the winery.

Dave, one of the other regular tasters on Thursday nights at Fine Wines of Stockton, presented this wine tasting. Dave frequently visits friends in Oregon and on a recent trip collected wines from three wineries in the Southern Oregon AVA (American Viticultural Area).
