Monday Dinners

Monday dinners with Dave

Dinner with Acacia

We had our weekly dinner with Dave on Tuesday this week. Nancy made spaetzle with some sausage on the side. She also roasted some beets and cooked the greens. I don’t care for the beets but I will eat the greens while both Nancy and Dave like the beets, too. To accompany the meal I chose an 2006 Acacia Pinot […]

Pinot and Pork Chops

We had an interesting wine this Monday with Dave. First, dinner! Nancy cut up a bunch of vegetables, carrots, onions, garlic (whole cloves), red potatoes and brussels sprouts. She put them in a casserole dish and splashed some olive oil and salt and pepper on top and put in the oven at 350 degrees. I had been to the market […]

Our first Cahors

Pete made dinner for Dave and I this Monday night. He prepared a chickpea ragout recipe from Jacque Pepin’s book Fast Food My Way. He added sweet Italian sausage to the recipe which included sauteed onion, scallions, garlic and tomatoes from our garden. I also made garlic bread to accompany the ragout. By the way, it made great leftovers for […]

Charbono With a Pork Roast

Great food and wine this Monday night. Nancy cooked a pork roast on a bed of vegetables and potatoes and made some applesauce from apples she bought at the farmers market. The 2 ½ pound roast was seasoned with salt, pepper and marjoram and roasted in the oven for about an hour and a quarter. Surrounding the roast were onions, […]

Pasta Dinner

Now that it is Fall, we’re finally getting our Summer weather. It has been a particularly mild Summer with very few days over 100 degrees. The past few days, however, have been very warm. Mornings have been damp and chilly, the birch trees are dropping their leaves. The backyard looks like Fall. Our Monday night dinner was Fall fare. Pete […]

Grilled Halibut

For our Monday dinner we decided to grill some halibut with some mesquite wood, actually regular charcoal with some mesquite added. I like to take a filet with the skin on (also works for salmon too) and lay it on a hot grill skin side down. Then I put the cover on and never turn it over. Depending on how […]

Monday on Tuesday

This week we had our Monday night dinner with Dave on Tuesday. Pete BBQ’d pork tenderloins which were seasoned lightly with a rub we had used on ribs earlier this summer. I made peach salsa as I had been to the farmer’s market on Sunday. We had tomatoes from our garden and avocados and roasted red potatoes. A flavorful Summer […]

Monday Sangiovese

We had an interesting wine with our Monday dinner this week. It was a 2000 Vita Nova Santa Inez Valley Sangiovese (Stolpman Vineyard). It was bottled by Jim Clendenen of Au Bon Climat winery. I don’t know any more about the history of this wine. We picked up a couple of bottles from the East Beach Wine Company when we […]

Monday night dinner.

Our friend Dave came over for our usual Monday night dinner. I grilled some pork chops on the BBQ with a little mesquite wood. We also had a salad made from avocado, red onion slivers, english cucumber and home grown cherry tomatoes with a lime vinaigrette. The other side dish was a mixture of Israeli couscous, orzo, baby garbanzo beans, red […]
