FitVine Free: Non-Alcoholic Wine Alternative

Every tasting sample we receive is an opportunity to learn about grape varieties, wine regions and winemaking techniques. In the case of FitVine Free we had the opportunity to taste and learn about “functional, non-alcoholic wine…infused with electrolytes, fresh fruit, and adaptogens…” I was just curious enough about the functional, non-alcoholic wine and adaptogens aspects to give them a taste, and I’m glad I did.

This is the entire quote from the FitVine Wines website describing their non-alcoholic wine:

“FitVine Free is the functional, non-alcoholic wine that lets you sip freely, live fully, and stay hydrated — infused with electrolytes, fresh fruit, and adaptogens, with no added sugar and only 35 calories per serving. It’s for those who love a delicious pour, not pour decisions.”

Each FitVine Free wine begins with California verjus (early harvest grape juice) to which real fruit and electrolytes (like potassium and magnesium) are added. No sugar is added. The result is a fruity, tasty wine alternative with no alcohol (< 0.5 % ABV). They are refreshing, not cloyingly sweet and the bubbles in the Sparkling White and Sparkling Rosé make them fun to sip. The Power Red is a still wine alternative that also contains adaptogens like ginseng and passionflower.

We initially tasted all three beverages cold from the refrigerator (in a wine glass) and discovered they’re good over ice too. The back labels of each bottle include nutritional information and ingredients. FitVine Wine is B Corp certified.

FitVine Free Non-Alcoholic Sparkling White straw color with soft bubbles and aromas of oat hay and fruit. Flavors include stone fruit with a bit of citrus. Flavors are fresh and slightly sweet, but with a clean finish. < 0.5% ABV. SRP $14.99

FitVine Free Non-Alcoholic Sparking Roséraspberry color with soft bubbles and minimal aromas. Flavors include raspberry and strawberry with a citrusy tart counterbalance to the fruit. It’s a bit sweet, but has a clean finish. < 0.5% ABV. SRP $14.99

FitVine Free Non-Alcoholic Power Red bright blackberry color with generous aromas and blackberries and blueberries. The flavors are similar to the aromas with the addition of a subtle earthiness. The body is light and there is a slight sense of sweetness, but with a clean finish. < 0.5% ABV. SRP $14.99

I think we are all aware that consumers worldwide are drinking less alcohol, whether it be wine, beer or spirits, and there are more choices of low and no-alcohol beverages in just about every category. FitVine Free represents a tasty, easy drinking choice in the wine category. They don’t taste like traditional varietal or blended wines, exactly, but they are flavorful and taste better than some dealcoholized wines. The Power Red tastes the most like wine. Both the Sparkling White and Sparkling Rosé taste more like mocktails.

Thanks to Calhoun & Company Communications for organizing our tasting.

Cheers!
