Rosé Rocks!

Rosé is one of the things I like the most about summer. Every year we look forward to seeking out new, and familiar, rosés to enjoy as outdoor temperatures rise. I love rosé for many reasons.

Pinot Noir – That Delicate Red Variety

When Pinot Noir is good, it can just defy words. Silky, earthy, complex, fruity, delicate, weightless…all at the same time. And then there is the color, transparent garnet, almost the color of iodine at times. Pinot Noir will always be my favorite varietal wine.

Okanagan Valley Wines – A Tasting at Home

During the excursion we took prior to the Wine Bloggers’ Conference 2013 (WBC13) in Penticton, British Columbia, we tasted wine at three wineries in the Kelowna area. We wrote about those winery visits in prior posts. During the tastings, we collected a few wines to take home with us. We did so with the idea of sharing them with the wine tasting group on Thursday nights at Fine Wines of Stockton. George and Gail gave Pete the floor for the tasting last Thursday night.

A Potpourri of Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is among my very favorite wine varietals. It’s one of the first red wines I learned to identify reliably by scent. I love that bramble, earth-scented nose. Berry, tart cherries and mushroom flavors with a light weight in the mouth, and that transparent ruby color in the glass, seal the deal for me. I prefer a lighter, less rip style of Pinot Noir, but have respect for a riper style as well.

Wine And A Pyramid Too!

We recently visited Summerhill Pyramid Winery as part of a Pre-Conference Excursion to the Wine Bloggers’ Conference 2013 in Penticton, British Columbia. The excursion was planned for us by Tourism Kelowna and included a tour and dinner at the winery.

Clos Du Val – A Bit of France in the Napa Valley

On a recent spring day, I took a trip to Napa Valley with friends to do some wine tasting. We wanted to stop at a winery we had not visited before, and chose Clos Du Val. Located on the Silverado Trail in the Stags Leap District AVA (American Viticultural Area), Clos Du Val was established in 1972 by American entrepreneur John Goelet and French winemaker Bernard Portet. The pair made an extensive search for the perfect location to produce Bordeaux and Burgundy style wines and chose what would become Stags Leap District and Los Carneros AVAs.
