Three of The Many Approaches To Sustainability In Bordeaux

Sustainability initiatives in Bordeaux include a variety of approaches. These efforts must at least preserve, if not restore, the environment and have a positive effect on society. According to the Le Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux (CIVB, Bordeaux Wine Council), the region began its sustainability efforts 20 years ago. 35% of Bordeaux’s vineyard area were taking a certified environmental […]

2017 Château Malescasse – Consistently Delicious and Affordable Bordeaux

Château Malescasse is located on Bordeaux’s left bank north of the city of Bordeaux in between the AOCs of Margaux and Saint-Julien. You might say it’s located in a great neighborhood. This bottle of Château Malescasse, which we received as a tasting sample, comes with lots of memories for us. It is one of the Bordeaux wines we tasted almost […]

Légende Wines: An Affordable Taste of Bordeaux

The two words I most closely associate with Bordeaux are Cabernet and expensive. Wines made by any of the five First Growth châteaux are too pricey for my budget and the same is true for most wine drinkers, I would imagine. I need to look further down the Bordeaux ranking to find delicious wines that are also affordable.  Another way […]

Our #OTBN and #winePW Celebration: The Château Léoville Las Cases Stole the Show

This was our third official celebration of Open That Bottle Night (OTBN) in conjunction with Wine Pairing Weekend (#winePW), a group of food and wine bloggers. We were a bit late to the party, given that Open That Bottle Night has been celebrated since 1999. That’s when then-Wall Street Journal wine columnists Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher first established […]

2010 Bordeaux – Final Tasting

We have spent the month of October immersed in Bordeaux, figuratively of course. We concluded our month-long series of tastings last Thursday night at Fine Wines of Stockton with a collection of Bordeaux from through out the appellation.

2010 Bordeaux — Pauillac

Our continuing 2010 vintage Bordeaux tasting at Fine Wines of Stockton brings us to Pauillac. Located just north of Saint-Julien along the left bank of the Gironde estuary, it is home to an amazing three of the five châteaux classified as 1st Growth (Lafite Rothschild, Latour and Mouton Rothschild). An additional 15 otherwise classified estates are located within Pauillac as well.

2010 Bordeaux Continued — Margaux

Our exploration of the 2010 Bordeaux vintage continues with a tasting from the Margaux AOC at a recent Thursday night wine tasting at Fine Wines of Stockton. We will continue to taste our way through the 2010 Bordeaux vintage all during the month of October.

Right Bank Bordeaux Vintages 2005 to 2009

The Thursday night tasting at Fine Wines of Stockton had us tasting Right Bank Bordeaux vintages 2005 to 2009. All wines originated from Pomerol. Kind of. Except for one. George, the wine shop owner, was short one Right Bank wine for this vintage range, so he chose a Left Bank wine with the highest percentage of Merlot he had in his cellar. He knows how to improvise.

Left Bank Bordeaux Vintages 2005 – 2009

The Thursday night wine tasting at Fine Wines of Stockton was a study of five recent Bordeaux vintages. Two of these vintages, 2005 and 2009, are considered great. The growing seasons were warm and produced lush fruit and opulent, complex wines. The others, 2006, 2007 and 2008, just average.
