A Taste of Flora Springs’ Flagship Red: 2021 Trilogy

The 2021 vintage of Trilogy marks the 38th bottling of what Flora Springs has always considered its flagship red wine. It continues to be sourced from Komes and Garvey family vineyards. Trilogy is a Cabernet Sauvignon based blend sourced primarily from the family’s Komes Ranch Vineyard. We received this wine as a tasting sample.

Flora Springs’ history begins with the purchase of a historic winery, badly in need of rescue, by Jerry and Flora Komes in 1977. The 1880s-era winery had been destroyed by fire, but the Komes restored the winery, purchased vineyards and established Flora Springs. The winery continued to be a family operation with the next generations of the family stepping in to grow the operation. In 2019 the family sold the historic winery to Florence and Daniel Cathiard, owners of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, but kept the tasting room in St. Helena and most of the family’s vineyards in Napa Valley.

Today, Flora Springs’ wines are made in their smaller winery built specifically to make smaller-lot wines. The winemaking principles are the same with the same dedication to making delicious wines. The 2021 Trilogy is proof of that dedication.

2021 Flora Springs Trilogy, Napa Valley

2021 Flora Springs Trilogy, Napa Valleydense ruby with generous fresh, juicy aromas of ripe boysenberries and ripe plums with hints of cedar. Flavors are rich and concentrated with ripe red and dark berries, plums, dusty earth, cedar and hints of vanilla. The body is medium with fine, drying tannins and a long finish. The aromas announce this wine’s freshness. It is absolutely delicious with abundant fresh, juicy fruit flavors. It is delicious now, but there is no need to rush to drink it. The blend is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot. The wine was fermented in stainless steel and aged in small French (90%) and American oak barrels for 18 months.

Thanks to Flora Springs for a taste of this lovely wine.

Cheers!
