Rosé is welcome in my glass regardless of the season, but, in springtime a gorgeous rosé reflects the color and vibrance of the season especially well. And just as I have an equal appreciation for both vibrant and delicate colors in our garden, I appreciate rosés of every shade. Today we are sipping a Languedoc rosé that is as perfumed as our garden and reminiscent of the peonies that recently finished blooming. We received this wine as a tasting sample.
Maison Lorgeril is a family winery with a history reaching back 12 generations in Languedoc. The family home, Château de Pennautier, was built in 1620 and is spectacular by any measure. The location, not far from Carcassonne, was the family’s home and first vineyard.
The family now owns five additional estates, totaling 865 acres, located in nine appellations in the Languedoc Roussillon region. 14 grape varieties are planted in a variety of terroirs.
The estates are farmed using sustainable and organic principles, and are certified as High Environmental Value Level 3. Nicolas de Lorgeril and his wife, Miren de Saint Chamas, have managed the estates since 1987.

2024 Maison Lorgeril Ô de Rosé, Languedoc — ballet slipper pink with generous aromas of roses and citrus blossoms. Flavors include mixed red and dark berries with citrus zest and floral hints all supported by notable acidity. 12.5% abv. Average price: $18
The blend is 60% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 5% Viognier. The wine was fermented and aged in stainless steel. The flavors are fresh, floral and so refreshing. Just as tasting is almost optional because of the wine’s gorgeous aromas, food is almost optional due to its delicious flavor profile. That said, this rosé is pretty versatile in terms of food pairings — think cheese boards, salads, grilled chicken, or just a warm afternoon.
Maison Lorgeril Ô de Rosé is imported by Albert Bichot USA.
Thanks to IT Public Relations for organizing our tasting.
Cheers!
