The Hard Working range of wines made by McPrice Myers are, by the winemaker’s description, his value-driven wines. They are sourced from Paso Robles and the Central Coast. We received a selection of Hard Working wines as tasting samples.
Mac, as he is known, has been making wine for more than 20 years. After making wine in a shared facility in Paso Robles he moved to a site in the rolling hills of the Adelaida District on Paso’s westside. He makes several other ranges of wine including Beautiful Earth, Single Vineyard Series, Proprietary Series and a Sparkling Wine. Many of this wines are available in magnum as well as 750ml bottles.
The 84-acres hillside property on Adelaida Road is planted to 20 acres of vines and is home to Mac’s winemaking facility and a tasting room. Beyond the estate vineyard, Mac is partial to vineyard sites in Santa Barbara and elsewhere in the Central Coast region.

2022 McPrice Myers Pound For Pound Zinfandel, Paso Robles — dark ruby with generous aromas of boysenberries, blackberries and raspberries. Flavors follow the aromas with boysenberries and blackberries along with minerality. Flavors are supported by juicy acidity and fine, drying tannins in a medium body. 14.8% abv. $20
2022 McPrice Myers Right Hand Man Syrah, Central Coast, California — dark ruby with aromas of dusty earth and blackberries. Flavors include ripe blackberries, vanilla and earth. The flavors, along with drying tannins and juicy acidity are present in a medium body. 14.9% abv. $20
2021 McPrice Myers High On The Hog Red Wine, Paso Robles — dark ruby with aromas of blackberries and earth. Flavors include blackberries along with tart red and dark berry flavors. The body is medium with drying tannins and good acidity. The wine is fresh and a bit tart. 15.2% abv. $20
2021 McPrice Myers Bull By The Horns, Cabernet Sauvignon, Paso Robles — dark ruby with aromas of ripe blackberries, earth and berry bramble. Flavors follow the aromas with berries, earth and dried bramble. Tannins are drying. 14.5% abv. $20
All of Mac’s Hard Working wines have a long finish and, in spite of alcohol levels near or over 15%, they don’t have a hot finish. Look to pair them with a burger, pizza or something off the grill when the weather warms a bit. Also, all are packaged in noticeably heavy bottles.
