August 8th, one year ago PullThatCork was started. We are still having fun as we learn to be better writers and have better content for our blog. That is what is so great about wine, we constantly discover new wines and we learn how to communicate about wine better. One interesting side effect of writing a wine blog is we have become more careful about analyzing the wines we taste. Not so much analysis that it becomes work but enough to make it more fun.
Our number of unique page views are going up and we now have over 100 Twitter followers. Of course we should have started on Twitter much earlier, we have only had a Twitter handle for a few months. It’s been fun and interesting learning to tweet, also.
Our biggest challenge has trying to find time to write when we aren’t tired from work. It’s hard to be creative when you have already been in front of a computer all day.
To celebrate the day we BBQ’d some pork chops along with roasted Yukon Gold potatoes and a warm pea and radish salad. Along with that we had a 2007 Elizabeth Spencer Proprietor Blended Special Cuvee Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Don’t you hate wines with really long names! Only 92 barrels were bottled for this wine made of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Merlot. It ended up pairing great with the pork chops. The pork chops really enhanced the flavor of the wine.
The wine was a dark ruby color with dark fruit and tobacco on the nose. An elegant wine with well integrated tannins and flavors of dark fruit, tobacco and leather. The finish was moderately long with flavor and tannins. An excellent wine to celebrate our anniversarry with.

Congratulations on your one year anniversary. I know that writing a blog is time consuming as it’s like having a part-time job, sometimes dedicating over 20 hours a week on top of the 50+ hours for work can get tiresome. Then off to wineries or wine tastings on the weekend and during the week so that you have something to write about. It all works out in the end though. You’ve done a fine job, keep up the good work!
