This Monday night Nancy made a great Beef Stroganoff from her own recipe to go with our wine of the evening. She used a chuck roast (grass fed) that was finely diced with a small amount of Italian sausage. She used crème fraiche instead of sour cream. Nancy served it with rice and peas mixed with sauteed mushrooms and shallots. For our wine selection we chose a Sangiovese. It went well with the stroganoff and was pleasant to drink on its own.
The 2006 Tenimenti Angelini Trerose Vino Nobile di Montepulciano had a medium garnet and a somewhat stinky nose initially. After it sat in the glass awhile the nose was more smoky with a little rubber tire. The flavor was smokey with leather, rubber tire and medium dark fruit. There were moderate tannins with good acid. It had a light body and medium length finish with flavor and tannins. As the evening went on it became more complex with spicy dark fruit.
We also tasted this wine in our Thursday Night in Tuscany posting last October. We can certainly see the similarities between this and the previous tasting.
