Just like a lot of other people we will make some resolutions for 2013. Just ones related to wine, however. We will update this post as we complete our resolutions so everyone can see our progress.
1. Try at least three varieties that we have never had before.
* Baco Noir – February
* Pinotage – March
* Vernaccia di San Gimignano – April
Looks like we hit this goal pretty early in the year!
* Garganena – July
2. Try wines from three states we have not had a wine from.
3. Try some wine from three countries we have not had wine from in the past.
* Bulgaria – 2011 Targovishte Riesling – May
We should be able to accomplish these goals and learn something at the same time. Have you made your New Year’s wine resolutions yet?
I’ve compiled a similar list for myself; maybe you haven’t tried some yet:
Vin Jaune – Jura region, France (with game bird)
Vin Santo – Italy (with biscotti)
Naoussa Xynomavro or Nemea Agiorgitiko- Greece (ask greek somm for pairing)
Saperavi-Georgia (with tender, onion grilled meatballs)
I’ve had a couple of the Georgian; once in India, once in Russia, I have another on my shelf waiting for a good Russian meal. If you are lucky enough to find these wines please tell me!
I think I will go eat lunch now – I’m starved
Thanks for the suggestions, we are going wine shopping for different varietals soon and will look for those. We are also going to see if we can find some Croatian wine. I have heard some are pretty good. Nancy found a review on a wine from Texas that we want to try, Red Caboose Winery.
My New Year’s resolution is to have Pete and Nancy serve me their best from their developing cellar (and to not have them lock me in the cellar afterwards, unless it has a nice bed).
