Thursday nghts tasting notes again. This week we tasted red Bordeaux from the years 2006, 2007 and 2008. This tasting hopeully will help us see how these wines may be developing in our cellars.
2008 Château La Croix de Gay – From Pomerol on the right bank of Bordeaux this wine had a medium ruby color and a smoky nose. There were bacon flavors with vegetal and dark fruit. Moderate tannins good acid. Finished with fruit and tannins. We last tasted this back in February of this year.
2008 Château Clerc-Milon – This is a fifth growth from Pauillac on the left bank. It had a medium ruby color and a slightly smoky and vegetal nose. There were tart fruit with vegetal flavors with plenty of acid and moderate tannins. The finish becomes slightly bitter over time. We tasted the Clerc-Milon previously back in May of 2012.
2006 Château Clerc-Milon – A slightly older version of the previous wine that had a garnet color; and stinky nose initially, then earthy and smoky. Tart fruit dominates with slightly vegetal flavors in the background. Good acid finishes with fruit and tannins and no bitterness. Very well balanced overall.
2006 Château Beauregard – Another wine from Pomerol. This was a garnet color with a stinky nose then moves to vegetal. That seems to be a common theme with these Bordeaux wines tonight. The flavors are smoky with coffee and dark fruit. Moderate tannins and good acid with a rounder mouth feel.
2007 Blason de L’Evangile – Another Pomerol, it is generally 70% to 80% Merlot with the balance Cabernet Franc. The color is a ruby-garnet. There is a dark fruit nose, different than the preceding wines, sweeter fruit, plus a bit of vanilla flavor. There were moderate tannins and plenty of acid. We tasted the 2004 vintage back in February of 2012.
2007 Château Lynch Bages – Another fifth growth from Pauillac. The wine had a ruby color with a vegetal, green pepper nose. There were tobacco, dark fruit and vegetal flavors. Flavors are very complex with a lot of drying tannins and good acid. We have previously had this wine back in March of 2011.
All the wines were quite good. For vintages that weren’t the best they are still holding up and should be fine for two to three more years in your cellar.
