The 2007 Sterling Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a nice dark purple color. The nose is somewhat closed but I do get some blackberry and dark plum aromas. Real nice slightly grippy tannins balanced well with the acid and flavor. There was a lot of dark fruit and leather flavor. The finish was pleasant and of medium length.
I think this is a pretty good wine for a $20.00 Napa Cabernet. It is made with 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc, 1% Gros Verdot and 1% Petite Verdot (alc. 14.2). The wine was barrel aged for 16 months in American, French and Eastern European oak.
I had the pleasure of visiting Sterling Vineyards and I agree, their Cab’s are tremendous and well priced.
We haven’t been to Sterling yet but are planning on going later this year. From what I see on their web site it looks like quite a place.
It is gorgeous, if I remember correctly you take a gondola ride up to the vineyard. Really great views and a self-guided tour. You’ll enjoy it.
