This is the first time we have had a red wine from Provence and we had no idea what to expect. To preserve the suspense I did not do any research before we tried the Chateau de Saint-Martin Grande Reserve. We didn’t even know the varietal as it wasn’t listed on the bottle.
The color was ruby with garnet on the edges. The nose smelled of dark fruit, tobacco and rubber tire. There were flavors of dark fruit, cherry and peppery spice. There were moderate tannins, good acid and a long finish. We will buy more of this wine to enjoy later. It certainly has enough life for several more years.
After we tasted the wine I looked it up on the Internet and found it was a Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre blend (13% alc).
