Bervini 1955 Prosecco & Rosé Spumante

Bubbles. Who doesn’t love them? The lively effervesce that comes with a sparkling wine is an excellent way to introduce a bit of variety into your wine enjoyment. And, in general they’re very versatile food partners. We recently had the opportunity to taste two sparkling wines, which we received as tasting samples, made by Bervini 1955. The winery is located in the northeast corner of Italy in the province of Pordenone where Prosecco DOC and Friuli Grave DOC overlap.

Father and son, Giuseppe and Paolo, are the second and third generations of the Bergamo family to continue the work of Antonio, Giuseppe’s father, who, in 1955, established Azienda Vinicola A. Bergamo. The family farms their 54-acre estate organically and is certified as such.

Bervini 1955 Spumante RoseBervini 1955 Spumante Roséballet slipper pink with generous, medium-sized bubbles. Generous mixed berry aromas continue in the flavor profile along with a bit of citrus zest and a perfumed finish. The wine is mouth filling and finishes relatively clean with adequate acidity. 11% abv. SRP $18.99

This rosé is bright, lively and easy to like. If we hadn’t already opened this wine to taste it, I would be serving it with appetizers later this month when I gather with a group of friends. It is made using the white grape variety, Glera, and Raboso, a red variety. The still wines are made in stainless steel and the second (bubble producing) fermentation takes place in pressurized tanks.

Bervini 1955 Prosecco Millesimato 2016Bervini 1955 Prosecco Millesimato 2016light yellow in the glass with generous and persistent bubbles. Aromas and flavors of dried oat hay, white flowers and pears are relatively complex and long lasting. Hints of citrus zest add lively acidity and the wine finishes with a hint of spice. 11% abv. SRP $18.99

This wine carries the Prosecco DOC classification and is vintage dated – Millesimato 2016. According to the winery, it is at its best within two years of the harvest date. It is produced from 100% Glera grown in the Veneto-Friuli Venezia Giulia region. Creamy pasta with peas is a natural pairing with this wine, as is a buttery, sautéed fillet of sole topped with slivered almonds. Don’t rule out a variety of appetizers as delicious choices as well.

Cheers!
