A Trio of Argentinian Malbec by Trivento

As much as I enjoy oven-roasted beef, pork or chicken, there is no substitute for outdoor grilling in terms of flavor. With the weather improving quickly it’s time to fire up the grill and begin to think about the wines to pair with your outdoor meals. This trio of Malbec (received as tasting samples) produced by Trivento in Argentina cry out for grilled meat. We know that first hand because we recently enjoyed them with grilled lamb chops and roasted asparagus. Oh my, what a delicious pairing!

Trivento Reserve Malbec2014 Trivento Reserve Malbecmedium ruby in the glass with ripe, juicy blackberry aromas and hints of toast. Blackberry and plum flavors combine with earthy backnotes and hints of crushed flower stems. Tannins are smooth and well integrated with the flavors and the length is medium with juicy acidity. 13.5% abv. SRP $11

This wine will appeal to a wide variety of wine drinkers. It doesn’t have too much of anything, but has plenty of flavor. At $11 it makes a solid everyday red wine. This 100% Malbec is sourced from the Luján de Cuyo area in Mendoza.

Trivento Amado Sur Malbec blend2014 Trivento Amado Surdense ruby-violet in the glass with dark fruit aromas backed with hints of smoke. Concentrated plum and blueberry flavors combine with a bit of earth, hints of dried herbs and bright acidity. Significant, drying, well-integrated tannins linger on the medium-length finish. This wine has a delightful combination of bold flavor without being heavy and ponderous. 14% abv. SRP $15

Malbec (79%) is blended with Bonarda (11%) and Syrah (10%) to produce this lovely Malbec blend. It is the lightest-bodied wine in this group but has so much flavor. Really delicious.

Trivento Golden Reserve Malbec2014 Trivento Golden Reserve Malbecdense ruby-violet in the glass with hints of cedar spice, smoke and dark fruit. An immediate pop of cedar spice flavor is followed by plumy fruit and crushed flower stems. Significant, drying tannins are balanced by the depth of flavor and bright acidity. This wine is big, dense and flavorful. 14.5% abv. SRP $21

That pop of cedar spice drew me into this dark, delicious wine. The group of vineyards that are the source for this 100% Malbec are located at higher elevations in the Luján de Cuyo region of Mendoza. Unbelievably, they were planted in 1912.

Concha y Toro shows the same attention to detail in this Argentinian venture as they do at home in Chile. The Trivento range of wines offer good quality for the price and are a true varietal expression of Malbec in Argentina. They’re a perfect match for whatever comes off your grill. Now, all you need to do is get out there and start grilling!

Thanks to Creative Palate Communications for sending this taste of Argentinian Malbec our way.

Cheers!
